Terms of Service

This is a working draft for a device that has not launched and a campaign that has not run. It sets out honestly what these terms will need to cover, without inventing specifics we haven't decided yet.

Draft — not legal advice. This document must be reviewed by counsel before launch.

1. Who these terms apply to

These terms are intended to govern use of openremote.ai, any Kickstarter campaign for OpenRemote run by Reality Inc. (trading as Scam.ai), and use of the OpenRemote device once it ships. Our registered address, jurisdiction, and the governing law of these terms are [TO BE COMPLETED].

2. Pre-launch status

OpenRemote has not launched. No pricing, availability, or ship date has been announced anywhere on this site, and nothing here should be read as a commitment on those points. Specific campaign terms — pledge levels, rewards, delivery estimates, and refund policy — will be published when the campaign is live and are [TO BE COMPLETED] until then.

3. Voice capture and call handling

OpenRemote is a voice-driven device that can capture audio and handle calls on a user's behalf. Acceptable use around recording other people, consent obligations in your jurisdiction, and any limits we place on how the device may be used to handle calls are [TO BE COMPLETED]. Our data practices around audio are described in the Privacy Policy.

4. On-device software and programmability

OpenRemote runs Linux and is intended to be programmable. Any terms around modifying the device, running your own software on it, warranty implications of doing so, and any open-source licensing that applies are [TO BE COMPLETED].

5. Acceptable use

A full list of prohibited uses of the site, the campaign, and the device itself is [TO BE COMPLETED].

6. Payments, pledges, and refunds

No prices have been set. Terms around how pledges are collected, when charges occur, and under what circumstances a refund may be available will follow Kickstarter's own terms as well as ours, and are [TO BE COMPLETED].

7. Warranty and liability

Warranty terms, liability limitations, and dispute resolution provisions for a hardware product like this require careful drafting and are [TO BE COMPLETED].

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product and campaign become more concrete. How we will notify people of material changes is [TO BE COMPLETED].

9. Contact

Questions about these terms can be sent to hello@openremote.ai. That is the only contact address we are publishing for OpenRemote at this time.
