Privacy Policy

This is a working draft for a device that has not launched. It sets out honestly what we intend to address, without inventing specifics we haven't decided yet.

Draft — not legal advice. This document must be reviewed by counsel before launch.

1. Who this policy covers

OpenRemote is made by Reality Inc., trading as Scam.ai (referred to here as "we", "us", or "the company"). This draft policy is intended to cover visitors to openremote.ai, people who back the product on Kickstarter, and eventual owners of an OpenRemote device. Our registered address, jurisdiction, and governing law are [TO BE COMPLETED].

2. Audio capture

OpenRemote is a voice-driven device, so it necessarily captures audio to function — for example, when you speak to it directly or when it handles a call on your behalf. We have not finalised exactly when the microphone is active, how that state is indicated to the user, or how a user controls it. Those mechanisms are [TO BE COMPLETED].

3. Call recording

Because OpenRemote can take calls on a user's behalf, whether and when call audio or transcripts are recorded or retained — and how that interacts with two-party consent and call-recording laws in a given jurisdiction — is [TO BE COMPLETED]. This section will need particular attention from counsel before launch.

4. On-device vs. cloud processing

Some processing may happen on the device itself, and some may involve sending data to servers we or a third party operate. The exact split between on-device and cloud processing — and which categories of data ever leave the device — has not been finalised and is [TO BE COMPLETED].

5. Other information we may collect

Beyond audio, this may eventually include account details, device identifiers, usage and diagnostic data, and information you provide when contacting us or backing the campaign. The full list, and the legal basis for each, is [TO BE COMPLETED].

6. How we use information

We expect uses to include operating the assistant, fulfilling Kickstarter pledges, providing support, and improving the product. A complete, specific list is [TO BE COMPLETED].

7. Sharing with third parties

If any processors, cloud providers, or other third parties handle data on our behalf, they will be named here along with the purpose of that sharing. That list is [TO BE COMPLETED].

8. Data retention

Retention periods for audio, transcripts, account data, and campaign information are [TO BE COMPLETED].

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your data, and to object to certain processing. How to exercise those rights with us — and which regimes (for example GDPR or CCPA) apply — is [TO BE COMPLETED].

10. Children's privacy

Whether OpenRemote is intended for use by children, and any age restrictions that apply, is [TO BE COMPLETED].

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product and our data practices become more concrete. How we will notify people of material changes is [TO BE COMPLETED].

12. Contact

Questions about this policy can be sent to hello@openremote.ai. That is the only contact address we are publishing for OpenRemote at this time.
